This month, Im delighted to spotlight Quazi Design, an artisan brand based in Eswatini, creating distinctive paper mâché wall art and other accessories from recycled newspaper and magazines. Founded through an unexpected collaboration with magazine distributors looking for a way to repurpose unsold print, the studio has grown into a long-standing practice rooted in resourcefulness, material experimentation, and strong community.
I spoke with the founder and designer about the origins of the work, the entirely hands-on process behind each piece, and what it means to build a craft-based business that has remained closely tied to the same group of women artisans for over 15 years.
