As many of you who follow my work know, I really love Romania—Transylvania in particular. It’s a region that feels a bit like Provence in Eastern Europe: with gorgeous Carpathian mountain views, fortified churches, incredible traditional craftsmanship, pottery villages throughout, and plenty of old-world charm. It's a region filled with contrasts: the spicy Roma life mixed in with layers of Saxon and Hungarian history embedded in the architecture. Old carts and horses fly by - flocks of sheep and shepherds in the distance, fancy, shiny gates fascinate my eye, in contrast with the simple, country homes. And I must add that the cuisine at most bed and breakfasts is local and memorable.

It's one of the most fascinating, authentic corners I have explored in Eastern Europe. And of course, the craft that adds an added layer of interest - there is a lot to explore here, and where I've spotted some of the most beautiful pottery, each village holding its own style and traditions. But they are often tucked away and hard to find, so it’s recommended to have a guide.

For those curious enough to venture there, I wanted to share two memorable boutique stays that truly stood out.
